    Epoxy Flooring
    FAQ.

Everything we wish customers knew before they shopped epoxy. Straight, no-jargon answers on cost, durability, installation, and maintenance.

    General

    What is epoxy flooring?+

Epoxy flooring is a multi-coat system applied to a properly prepared concrete slab. It bonds chemically with the concrete to create a seamless, durable, chemical-resistant surface. A typical Crosspoint system includes a primer, a colored basecoat, optional decorative flakes or quartz, and a clear polyaspartic or urethane topcoat for UV stability and abrasion resistance.

How is real epoxy different from a big-box store kit?+

Real commercial epoxy is 100% solids — it cures to nearly its full thickness. Box-store kits are typically water-based and only 30–50% solids, meaning they cure thin, peel under hot tires, and need replacing in 1–3 years. Crosspoint installs only professional-grade 100% solids systems with mechanical concrete prep — the only method that delivers a permanent bond.

    Cost

How much does epoxy flooring cost?+

Residential garages typically range from $5–$10/sq ft installed. Commercial floors run $5–$12/sq ft. Industrial systems range $7–$25/sq ft depending on build thickness and chemical requirements. We provide detailed fixed-price quotes after a free on-site visit — no surprises.

Why are there such cheap quotes online?+

Cheap quotes typically mean acid-etched prep (vs diamond grinding), single-coat application, and lower-solids product. These floors usually fail within 1–3 years. A properly installed system costs more upfront but lasts 15–20+ years — far cheaper per year of service.

    Durability

How long does epoxy flooring last?+

A properly installed 100% solids epoxy system with mechanical prep lasts 15–20+ years in residential use and 10–20+ years in commercial/industrial use. Lifespan depends on the system spec, traffic, and chemical exposure. Recoats every 7–10 years can extend life indefinitely.

Will it peel, chip or yellow?+

Not when installed correctly. Peeling is caused by skipping mechanical prep. Chipping is caused by undersized systems for the application. Yellowing is caused by using non-UV-stable epoxy topcoats. We diamond-grind every slab, spec systems to load, and finish with UV-stable polyaspartic topcoats.

    Install

How long does the install take?+

Most residential garages: 1 day install + 24–48 hr cure. Commercial floors: 1–5 days depending on size and zoning. Industrial systems: 3 days to 3 weeks. Polyaspartic topcoats can return floors to foot traffic in as little as 4 hours when speed matters.

Do I need to move everything out?+

Yes for residential garages — the floor must be completely empty. For commercial and industrial we can stage by zones and work around your operation. We'll outline staging requirements clearly during the quote.

Can you install on a cracked or damaged floor?+

Yes. Crack repair, spall repair, joint filling, and pitted concrete patching are part of standard prep. For severely damaged slabs we install a self-leveling epoxy mortar to create a fresh, flat substrate before the topcoat goes down.

Can it be installed in winter?+

Yes for heated garages and indoor commercial spaces. We monitor slab temperature, ambient temperature, and humidity to ensure optimal cure. Unheated outdoor or detached spaces are best installed April–November in Ontario.

    Maintenance

How do I clean an epoxy floor?+

Soft broom or dust mop for daily debris. Damp mop with mild pH-neutral cleaner (no acids, no ammonia, no abrasives) for spills. Hot tire marks lift with a stiff bristle brush and cleaner. That's it — no waxing, no stripping, no buffing.

Will road salt damage the floor?+

No. Properly cured 100% solids epoxy is impervious to road salt and brine. Salt residue can leave a film if left to dry — a quick mop removes it instantly with no staining.
